Lyrics & Poems - Page 2

The Days Ahead

(verse)

Statesmen on sale ~ to the fortune five

TV - sells us ~ the easy high-life

Enchanted dreams of ~ worthless wealth

Upside down truth ~ hear the rebels yell

the world’s in decay and crumbling fast

and you wonder why

-bridge w/o vocals-

(verse)

Seven warm winds ~ blow through the night

Take heed my friend ~ and you’ll see the signs

Blue moon turned red ~ the sky peels back

as the silence cuts ~ through the soul of man

you will be walking on golden streets

If you’re not deceived

(bridge)

The angels await there by the river - to settle the score

The thunder and the music make it clearer - you will suffer no more

(chorus)

Now - the time has come ~ one place to run

one kingdom come ~ you’re taken higher

This ~ city will burn ~ she never learns

she ride’s the lie ~ into the fire

-SOLO-

(repeat bridge)

(repeat chorus)

Let it Go

Jesus - oh I'm needin' you now

there is somethin' you can help me find

I can't feel the words on my tongue

but they're on my mind

Lonely - is the autumn wind

filling the sail of my empty heart

Lord, I've never seen Your face

but I've heard how You are

Your love is so high

even Venus couldn't begin to kiss it's sky

Let it go - release my pain

Let it go - let Your love be rain for me

Let it go - release my pain

Let it go - let Your blood be rain for me

Father - is it too late for me

You can tell me with one touch of Your hand

warm me with Your grace and give me

a hope to understand

Your love is so thick

even Cupid couldn't put his arms around it

[repeat chorus]

Barrett Dutra 1995 - Adapted from Dan Reed Network song.

Insane Train

A boy from the south side of town soon fell to the underground

sellin' slow death for a crooked man

A drive-by in his neighborhood killed his mother and his brotherhood

No one left to help him understand

Walking aimlessly through streets of lonely faces,

hearing the voice of the man...

he said, "Welcome aboard The Insane Train

we've got everything you think you need

Welcome aboard, we entertain

we'll show you things you never seen."

Dancing in a sleazy show, the money feeds her children though

She doesn't know there's a killer in the crowd

He hides back in the shadows where demented thoughts go and grow

She gets off and is followed home

It's the ritual he's done so many times,

systematic with his rhyme...

he sings, "Welcome aboard The Insane Train

we've got everything you think you need

Welcome aboard, we entertain

we'll show you things you never seen."

Inventor of sea and land, created intelligent man,

susceptible to temptation

If we couldn't deny His love, you'd see that a puppet's not enough

without choice, love would just be a word

Silent nights with only echoes of our prayers,

‘cause we won’t listen to the answers

"Welcome aboard The Insane Train

we've got everything you think you need

Welcome aboard, we entertain

we are the world and it's greed"

Barrett Dutra 1991, revised 1995

Finding Peace

I wanted so badly - to show her all of the things

that I never seen - but now she's gone

Someone tell me what in the world went wrong

One day she was playing in the backyard

and now she's running away from home

What would have protected her from what tore us apart

(chorus)

Where is our time spent?

Have we found peace yet?

Where is our treasure kept?

We'll find our heart there

Some young ladies man stepped on her halo

Six weeks, she got the news, a child inside the child

Starin' down the barrel of a selfish man

who changed his plans, left her for an infinite while

[repeat chorus]

How can I keep my kids from addiction

when I can't put the bottle down?

It seems they never do as I say

and I see myself when they're around

(bridge)

Have we been through enough pain - enough pain?

This world, it's just a shame - don't run away

I think it's about time we embrace

Embrace the love that Jesus gave

He gives His grace - and it should reflect from our face

[repeat chorus]

Barrett Dutra 1995

What Is Wrong

I see the care mother has for child

and I see her dysfunction, while her heart of gold runs wild

I see the world with learning eyes, so it's no surprise

that I do what is wrong

I see the father that man has become

and I see his dysfunction, because he's not around

I see the world with learning eyes, but tell me why

should I become what is wrong

I see the light as it answers my call

and I see encouragement, as it teaches me to walk

I see the world with discerning eyes, so tell me why

I can't keep from what is wrong

I see an old man inside the mirror

and I see his dysfunction, frustrated and in tears

he surrenders his mind to the Devine

and gives to God what is wrong

Barrett Dutra 1996

Keep My Eyes On You

When my heart weighs heavy 'cause I do what I see

You still quench my need

from the ocean depths to the stars in the night

chaos plants his seeds

Why do I wilt like a rose, in spite of what I know?

Keep my eyes on You

Lord I'll be praising You again, I know

Keep my eyes on You

You'll put a smile on my face, I know

You are my Lord

When my soul weighs heavy because I do what I feel

and my guilt feels real

I must remember what I know inside

in spite of how I feel

Your wisdom blooms like a rose if I live what You've sewn

Keep my eyes on You

Lord I'll be praising You again, I know

Keep my eyes on You

You'll put a smile on my face, I know

You are my Lord
